OceanX Announce Plan for 85.3 Meter Alucia2 Explorer Superyacht

The non-profit ocean exploration and media production company, OceanX, has announced plans to refit the 85.3 metre explorer yacht Alucia2, see photo above.

The yacht is designed to build upon the success of the current 55.75 metre Alucia, pictured left which appeared in the BBC’s highly popular Blue Planet II series and is currently listed for sale with Fraser Yachts.

Alucia2 was built by Freire and launched in 2010. She is currently undergoing a major refit in The Netherlands, during which significant improvements will be made with the aim of enabling the OceanX team to explore further than ever before.

OceanX is led by billionaire Ray Dalio and his son Mark Dalio, with Hollywood director James Cameron the organisation has worked to bring films to the public with NHK Japan and the Discovery USA channel as well as research for the American Museum of National History to mention just a few.

The superyacht will feature a forward helicopter landing deck with adjacent hangar, a garage capable of housing three (1,000 metre dive capability) manned submersibles, a dedicated ROV deployment bay as well as after deck launch and side boarding systems for scuba divers. Her upper deck will also feature a 40-ton crane and a 40-toncapable to load and stow 6 metre and 12 metre shipping containers.

Inside Alucia2 there will be state-of-the-art wet and dry marine search labs and a media and production centre allowing the team to create high quality films and documentaries while at sea plus a conference room.

Delivery of the yacht is expected sometime in 2019.
